At the recent Frankfurt Motor Show, Nissan showed off a possible future for the compact crossover segment—the Nissan Gripz Concept. This sporty crossover is designed with a new, younger generation in mind and exudes excitement and adventure from every angle.
The Gripz Concept is meant to be both an urban traveler and a weekend adventurer. The design has a similar footprint to a compact crossover, but its profile has a raised ride height and looks more like a sports car.
Designers were inspired by Nissan’s first “crossover,” the Safari Rally-winning Nissan 240Z from the 1970s. These racers had a raised ride height, tough suspension system, and a matte-black finish on the hood and trunk. They were both fast and athletic, and tackled the rough African terrain with ease.
Now, the Gripz takes this idea into the modern world by adding EV technology for a hybrid drivetrain. It will use the same electric motor used by the Nissan LEAF combined with an efficient gasoline engine. This combination delivers smooth and quick acceleration with excellent efficiency.
