The New York International Auto Show will run from April 14th-23rd at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City this year, and at this show, Nissan will unveil the limited-production GT-R Track Edition.
For the 2017 model year, the GT-R is getting some major attention. It started out with redesigned models of both the GT-R Premium and GT-R NISMO and now adds this Track Edition, which fits in between the other two models.
The Track Edition is sure to be popular among enthusiasts. It comes equipped with the same 565-horsepower engine as the Premium model; however, it promises to deliver a higher level of performance.
“The new GT-R Track Edition gives buyers a specialized model, one true to GT-R heritage and available only by special order,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “Building on the major upgrade to every GT-R for 2017, the Track Edition is an amazing package inside, outside and under the skin.”
Performance features on the Track Edition include an advanced four-wheel independent suspension with unique NISMO tuning, reduced weight, NISMO-spec tires, more roll stiffness, and additional adhesive bonding.
The 2017 Nissan GT-R Track Edition will be available late this summer only by special order through dealerships, like us here at 171 Nissan.
The dream of gamers around the world is about the come true, with the chance to turn their virtual driving skills into real life racing credentials. Welcome to GT Academy 2016. This is a collaborative project between Nissan and PlayStation where gamers can compete for the best lap times while playing Gran Turismo Sport.
Currently, the competition is open to gamers in Australia, Indonesia, Mexico, North Africa, the Philippines, and Thailand. More regions will have their own competitions when Gran Turismo Sport officially launches on the PlayStation 4 on November 15th. Here at 171 Nissan, we anticipate (and very much hope) that North America will be part of that release.
Gamers from each region with the fastest lap times are invited to the GT Academy, where they go through intense, face-to-face, real world race challenges where the winner of that competition gets the opportunity to become a NISMO Athlete.
The first GT Academy competition was held in 2008 and since then the program has stunned the racing world with its success. GT Academy winners that are current NISMO Athletes include Jann Mardenborough, Lucas Ordonez, Ricardo Sanchez, Romain Sarazin, Matt Simmons, and others.
While the competition currently isn’t open for North America, that doesn’t mean you can’t start practicing![Top]
The Nissan GT-R Nismo is notable for crushing records on the Nurburgring in 2013, when it finished with a time of 7:08.679 – a record that has only been surpassed by far more exotic, advanced, high-performance supercars. However, the mass-produced GT-R Nismo has never quite had the specs to pull off the same type of power and performance. Nissan aims to change that with the release of the Nissan GT-R Nismo N-Attack package.
The N-Attack package, which previously was not offered on this side of the Pacific, features upgrades like a stronger suspension, bucket seats, and an overall more aerodynamic design. One significantly noticeable difference is the enlargement of the rear wing that comes standard on the GT-R Nismo.
While the N-Attack package is typically installed at the Omori factory in Japan, the Steve Millen Sportsparts team, which has a long history of tuning and working with Nissan, has been sent to the factory to be trained in the installation of the new parts. Steve Millen Sportsparts has been given the title of “official installer and certified sales agent.”
While many people will be fine with the standard model, car enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies will enjoy the option for the Nissan GT-R Nismo N-Attack package and the extra potential for speed and thrills it provides.
