The Tokyo Motor Show is celebrating its 45th year from Friday, October 27th through Sunday, November 5th. During this time, automakers will pack plenty of exhibits, features, and new concepts into a week of events and festivities focused around automobiles. One of the big names coming to the Tokyo Motor Show is Nissan, who is planning on debuting something a bit unorthodox – a new Leaf Nismo Concept.
We’ve already had official word that the performance-focused Nismo name would get added onto the Nissan Leaf eventually, but Nissan representatives didn’t give an idea for when that would be. The redesigned, next-gen 2018 Nissan Leaf came out without any promises about a launch date for a sportier version. However, it appears that launch will happen sooner rather than later. The Leaf Nismo Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show will feature a more aerodynamic design, a sport-tuned suspension, improved acceleration, and new wheels.
There’s no telling yet what kind of power ratings we’ll see out of the Leaf Nismo Concept. Specs and other features will likely be unveiled at the event itself. Stay tuned for more news and information on the Leaf Nismo Concept from the Tokyo Motor Show and here at 171 Nissan.
The Nissan Leaf is one of the world’s best electric cars and the top model by sales alone. Considering electric cars are still young in the automotive industry, the question of what to do with the old batteries weighed on eco-friendly drivers’ minds. It looks like Nissan has the answer, and it’s one that Leaf drivers will support wholeheartedly.
By teaming up with power-management company Eaton, Nissan is providing Nissan Leaf batteries to Webaxys, a data storage center located in Normandy, France. The batteries will store renewable energy that will then power the data center.
Up to 2% of the world’s total energy usage comes from data centers and that number is rising. In 2015, data centers used more energy than the entirety of the United Kingdom. Running a stable data center on renewable energy alone is still a little ways off as the center is sensitive to outages but it’s certainly a start.
“By combining Nissan’s expertize in vehicle design and reliable battery technology with Eaton’s leadership in power quality and electronics, we hope to demonstrate that data centre energy management can be stable, sustainable and cost efficient in the near future,” said Gareth Dunsmore, director of electric vehicles at Nissan Europe.
