Sometimes, it really pays off to step away from the stress or mundane atmosphere of a normal routine and get a breath of fresh air in nature. Since 171 Nissan is so close to the surrounding area, we like to take regular hikes in one of these two favorite hiking places near Alexandria, LA. Once you’re there, you will be amazed at what a little time away can do for you.
Kisatchie National Forest
This national forest is located right next to Alexandria, LA. You can drive out to a variety of trailheads when you take a capable and maneuverable vehicle like the Nissan Rogue as your transportation. Bring camping gear and set up for the night, or use your Nissan Rogue to travel off-road until you find the perfect picnic location.
Sabine National Forest
West of Kisatchie, you’ll find another national forest. Sabine National Forest is actually just across the Texas border, and it’s a bit of a drive from Alexandria. However, the Nissan Rogue has plenty of entertainment technology to keep you occupied on the drive. Once you’re there, you can go backpacking or choose from a number of long trails for a day hike in this breathtaking forest.

Taking kids on road trips can be a bit of a hassle, but if you go prepared and stock up on fun ways for them to keep themselves busy, you’ll have much smoother trip. Just follow these easy tips for finding great entertainment for kids!
First of all, entertaining your kids doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t have to have a minivan with rear-seat Blu-ray players if you visit your local library. Libraries don’t just have books, although books are a great thing to bring along! You can also get portable handheld movies and even Wi-Fi hotspots so they can use a tablet or phone.
There are also all kinds of road trip games we remember from our childhoods. Pass these games onto your kids—the Slug Bug Game where you punch someone every time you see a VW Beetle (well, maybe not that one), the license plate game, the A to Z sign game. Sure, they get old after a while, but that’s when you play the Quiet Game. Whoever talks first loses!
Get some coloring books, bring handheld games, bring movies if you have a way to watch them—there are endless ways to keep kids entertained on road trips! For more tips to make your traveling better, stop by 171 Nissan today!
With the kids home from school all summer, it’s a great time to have some extra family fun. However, it can also be one of the most dangerous times of the year. Follow these simple tips to keep your family safe in the summer.
- Stay cool. Playing outside and getting some sun is great. However, to prevent any heat-related illnesses, remember to stay cool by wearing appropriate clothing, staying hydrated, using sunscreen, and seeking the shade when you can. Also remember to never leave a child or pet unattended inside a vehicle.
- Water safety. Make sure all children use appropriate flotation devices. The “puddle jumpers” are a popular and functional choice for young children. Also, never leave your children unattended in the water and do not rely on the lifeguard to watch your children. Consider enrolling children ages 3 and up in swimming lessons.
- Don’t get bitten. Bug bites are not only a nuisance, but can lead to insect-related diseases like Lyme disease, West Nile Virus, and others. Use an insect repellant while playing outdoors and check everyone, including yourself, for ticks.
