Looking to get better fuel economy? Here are a few tips:
Accelerate Gradually and Don’t Speed
Even the most aerodynamic, well-designed vehicle will experience increased drag at higher speeds, which requires more fuel to move the same distance. Couple this with the fact that accelerating quickly burns more fuel than slowly applying the gas, and you’ve got a fuel economy disaster on your hands if you’re the type to rush during your drive.
Pay Attention To Your Tires
It may not be the most obvious thing in the world, but having improperly inflated tires can actually negatively impact your fuel economy! This is because poor tire health causes your vehicle to need more fuel to push it the same distance.
Stay On Top of Your Maintenance Schedule
We all slack a little when it comes to routine vehicle service, but keeping your powertrain healthy is crucial to maintaining top fuel economy numbers. So get that oil change on time and have your engine tuned periodically; your gas tank, and your wallet, will thank you.
Buy an Efficient Car – Like the Nissan Altima!
Probably the most obvious way to save on gas is to buy a vehicle that doesn’t use much. The 2017 Nissan Altima gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 27 mpg in the city and a staggering 39 mpg on the highway,* making it one of the most efficient non-hybrids you can get your hands on.
Head to 171 Nissan so you can test drive the new 2017 Altima. Not only does it get better fuel economy – it’s an all-around quality car.
*All fuel economy numbers are based on estimated EPA averages.
One of the biggest problems when traveling or moving is trying to fit everything in your vehicle (2017 Nissan Altima, anyone?). We’ll share some of our favorite space-saving tips that will make packing your car a breeze!
- Pack similar items together – Make sure that you have breakable items at least kind of together. This will help you make sure that they’re placed carefully in a low-risk area of the car.
- Take advantage of all space – The trunk isn’t the only place to store things in a car! Store items under seats and anywhere else you can find it.
- Use bags, not boxes – As you may realize, it can be hard to fit a squared-off object into a rounded car interior. By packing in bags your cargo becomes more pliable and easier to fit.
- Bonus tip: use vacuum bags for even more space!
- Use an overhead carrier – There will always be times when you just need more space than you have. Add a carrier to the top of your car and pack it with the items you know you won’t need until you reach your destination.
Whether you’re going on a road trip, leaving for vacation or moving, let’s face it: space is always coveted when packing your car. Make the most of it with a new 2017 Nissan Altima sedan from 171 Nissan in DeRidder, LA![Top]
Taking kids on road trips can be a bit of a hassle, but if you go prepared and stock up on fun ways for them to keep themselves busy, you’ll have much smoother trip. Just follow these easy tips for finding great entertainment for kids!
First of all, entertaining your kids doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t have to have a minivan with rear-seat Blu-ray players if you visit your local library. Libraries don’t just have books, although books are a great thing to bring along! You can also get portable handheld movies and even Wi-Fi hotspots so they can use a tablet or phone.
There are also all kinds of road trip games we remember from our childhoods. Pass these games onto your kids—the Slug Bug Game where you punch someone every time you see a VW Beetle (well, maybe not that one), the license plate game, the A to Z sign game. Sure, they get old after a while, but that’s when you play the Quiet Game. Whoever talks first loses!
Get some coloring books, bring handheld games, bring movies if you have a way to watch them—there are endless ways to keep kids entertained on road trips! For more tips to make your traveling better, stop by 171 Nissan today!
Do you have a canine companion that you consider a member of your family? You aren’t alone. All across the U.S., there are plenty of people who love their pet like their own child. However, car safety is a big issue when it comes to bringing Fido along with you. According to a recent survey conducted by Nissan, 90% of dog owners want a car with more dog-friendly features, so Nissan decided to pursue the obvious solution: engineering a concept car for dogs, the XTrail 4Dogs.
Some more numbers were included in the survey: 98.7% of survey respondents use their car to transport their pet, and of that number, 88.7% of them bring their dog along for the ride at least once a week. That’s a lot of dogs riding in cars on a weekly basis!
Responders tended to agree that the trunk or backseat was the best place to keep a dog during these weekly excursions, but voiced concerns about canine accessibility when it came to actually getting their beloved furry family members into the vehicle. The XTrail 4Dogs concept includes a ramp to make getting in and out of the trunk easier than ever. What’s more is that the trunk can easily fit not one, but two dogs with plenty of space leftover, and even includes a shower, dryer, no-spill water bowl, treat dispenser, and more.
Unfortunately, Nissan’s car for dogs isn’t making its way to the mainstream market, but we at 171 Nissan think it’s a good way to spread awareness for dog safety in your car.[Top]
Every year at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, the best looking vehicles are recognized and rewarded. This year, Nissan’s innovation Vmotion 2.0 concept earned the EyesOn Design Award for Best Concept Vehicle.
The EyesOn Design award winners are chosen by a panel of automotive design leaders from around the world. The award is given to both the best concept vehicles and best production vehicle at the NAIAS.
Mamoru Aoki, executive design director, Nissan Global Design Strategy, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., said, “This prestigious award, earned from top design leaders from around the world, exemplifies the enormous potential of Nissan’s newest design direction. We’re honored to be here and excited to continue to show the world the limitless capability of Nissan design.”
Vmotion 2.0 represents the future of Nissan’s production sedans, both in design and technology. While it might seem to be off in a far distant future, technology like autonomous driving isn’t too far off at all.
Along with its autonomous technology, Vmotion 2.0 has a “floating roof” design and crisp character lines throughout the car’s body. On the front end, sharp cut-outs and a 3D “V-motion” grille give the concept its distinct look.
What do you think of Nissan’s Vmotion 2.0 concept?[Top]
When it comes to helping save homeless animals and improving their health and welfare, no one does more than the Animal Rescue Foundation of Louisiana (ARFLA). ARFLA’s effects can be seen across the state, including here in DeRidder.
ARFLA is a non-profit organization that strives to protect the animals around Louisiana who can’t protect themselves. Their physical shelter is located in Lafayette, but they frequently have adoption and fundraising events in other parts of the state. They rescue animals through a variety of sources, including picking up abandoned animals, rescuing dogs from high kill shelters, taking animals from people who cannot keep their pets, and taking litters of puppies in when the owners agree to have the mother spayed.
If you’re looking to add a new furry friend to your family, please consider choosing ARFLA as your pet adoption center. Every animal available for adoption has been fully vetted and temperament tested before being eligible for placement. In addition, all animals receive the necessary veterinarian care, including vaccinations, de-worming, spaying or neutering, microchipping, heartworm testing and treatment, necessary surgeries, and, of course, love and care.
To adopt a dog from ARFLA, you first need to fill out the adoption application. You can also help by donating needed supplies or donating money to the shelter.[Top]
Nissan has been one of the most vocal advocates for lowering the cost of electric vehicles, and now it may get its wish. The Nissan-Renault alliance is welcoming Mitsubishi into its fold, effectively increasing the range of vehicles it has to work with. Reports indicate that all three brands will use Nissan’s electric platform as the underpinning for all electric vehicles.
By sharing an electric vehicle platform, Nissan hopes to see the price of electric vehicles drop by 20%. Currently, the most affordable electric vehicle is the Mitsubishi i-MiEV at just under $23,000. By comparison, many gas-powered cars are much cheaper.
Renault and Nissan previously struggled to reach their desired price drop as they developed electric vehicles separately. Now, with Mitsubishi on board, the alliance plans to share the platform of the Nissan Leaf. They’ll also share the battery, motor and inverters in an effort to further save money.
A redesigned Nissan Leaf is expected to hit the market during 2018, which makes that the prime year for any major changes. The drive to create more affordable electric cars is on, and Nissan is leading the charge for greener roads.
We at 171 Nissan can’t wait to see how the alliance shapes the future of the electric vehicle segment![Top]
Achieving your New Year’s resolution is something to be proud of, no matter how time-consuming or difficult it may (or may not) be. There are plenty of goals to choose from, which makes it hard to pick just one. Then again, nothing is stopping you from attempting to achieve multiple goals throughout 2017! Here are some New Year’s resolution goals to challenge yourself with.
- Lose Weight – One of the most common resolutions people have is to lose weight. Some set specific goals while others decide that any amount of weight loss will do. Fortunately, since there are so many people with the same goal, it’s relatively easy to find a workout buddy to keep your motivated throughout the year.
- Kick Soda – Soda isn’t good for you, plain and simple. Large amounts of High Fructose Corn Syrup, sugar, chemicals, and other ingredients can do serious harm to your body. Kicking soda to the curb is one way to both detox and lose weight.
- Learn a Language – Widen your horizons and get ingrained in a new culture by learning a new language. Whether you plan on traveling or not, a new language has a number of additional benefits, including getting to say you’re bilingual. You could even advance in the workplace thanks to your newfound skill!
The 2017 Nissan Titan made its way to the annual Texas Truck Rodeo in mid-October and came out with a number of awards. The event, put on by the Texas Auto Writers Association, offers automakers a chance to strut their stuff with the toughest vehicles around. By coming out with three awards, the new Nissan Titan proved it can roll with the best of them.
The full-size pickup segment doesn’t have room for trucks that are weak of heart. The Nissan Titan hailed supreme, pulling three awards from the Texas Auto Writers Association. The first award, “Full-Size Truck of Texas” proved that the Titan truly is a tough pickup that’s capable of completing enormous tasks. That award went to the Titan Texas Edition SL Crew Cab.
The new Nissan Titan also earned the “Commercial Vehicle of Texas” award thanks to its extreme capability and versatility. That award found its way into the passenger seat of the Titan XD Single Cab diesel.
Finally, the Titan took home the “Best Value” award, marking its affordability in the full-size pickup segment. The prestigious honor went to the Titan XD Single Cab with either a gasoline or diesel engine.
We here at 171 Nissan couldn’t be prouder of the new Titan pickup truck![Top]
Holiday travels can be a hassle, but for many Americans it’s something of a holiday tradition. Crowded airports and congested roadways can cause stress, and that’s not something any traveler wants to experience during the holidays. We here at 171 Nissan have some stress-reducing holiday travel tips for those planning to visit family and loved ones during this festive season.
- Breathe – The main point of traveling is to arrive at your destination. Things are bound to go wrong, but it’s up to you not to let those unfortunate events ruin the holidays. Take a step back, breathe deeply, and then continue on your way. Don’t let something ruin the most wonderful time of the year before you even make it to your destination!
- Eat – A hungry stomach makes for a short temper and a grumpy traveler. Make sure to grab a bite to eat, even if it’s something small. While full meals would be ideal, time clinches can make them impossible. Either way, avoid going hungry during your travels.
- Sleep – Sleep is important to keep your stress levels low. Make sure to get a good night’s rest before you head out on the road or to the airport. Stress is bound to find you but a brain operating at peak efficiency is better than a bogged-down mind!
