We all want to drive safe cars and luckily there are organizations that test vehicles to see how safe they really are. One of these is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Each year it puts new cars through rigorous crash tests to determine their crashworthiness and the highest recognition it gives out is the Top Safety Pick+.
Recently, Nissan’s Top Safety Pick+ cars increased their total number of vehicles by one with the addition of the 2016 Altima. The Altima joins the 2016 Maxima and Murano that have also earned this designation.
IIHS gave the Altima its top “good” score in all five crash test and a “superior” rating for front crash prevention for models equipped with the available Forward Emergency Braking technology.
“Nissan is very proud to have our best-selling vehicle recognized by IIHS for excellence in vehicle safety,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA), in a statement. Furthermore he says, “Like the new Maxima and Murano, Altima sets high standards in a very competitive class for styling, performance and value as well as safety. We at Nissan are gratified to see that another of our core models has been recognized for excellent design and vehicle safety.”
The Forward Emergency Braking helps drivers stay safer by keeping an eye on their speed, how close drivers are to the cars around them, and can apply the brakes if the driver does not respond when needed.
In addition to this great technology, the Altima also offers Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Stop by 171 Nissan today to find out more about the award-winning 2016 Nissan Altima!
Every year, the Z Car Club Association celebrates its love of Nissan by holding a convention. This year, the 28th Annual International Z Car Convention (ZCon) was held in Memphis.
Nissan, of course, attended the convention and hit the road to ZCon in Memphis with fellow enthusiasts, VIPs, and employees on a 220-mile road trip from Nissan headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee.
At the convention, Nissan showcased an exciting lineup of past and newly-released cars, including the entire NISMO lineup, an original 240Z, a 2009 40th anniversary Z, the all-new 2016 Nissan Maxima, and the 2016 Nissan Titan XD. The featured car at the event was a 1974 260Z 2+2—the last Nissan lease vehicle used by the late Yutaka Katayama.
“ZCON is a great opportunity to showcase some of our most exciting vehicles – past and present – and celebrate Nissan’s rich sports car heritage alongside an outstanding group of enthusiasts,” said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc, in a statement. Furthermore, “with this year’s event so close to Nissan’s North American headquarters, it’s only fitting that we join Nissan fans on a road trip with an incredible lineup of Z cars, NISMO vehicles, the all-new 2016 Maxima and 2016 TITAN XD and more.”
At the event, held July 14 through July 18, attendees could participate in an autocross competition, driving tours, raffles, and more.[Top]
Academy Award®-winning actor, Paul Newman, stars once again onscreen in WINNING: The Racing Life of Paul Newman. The film is a documentary honoring the multi-talented man for the many successes experienced behind the wheel over his 35-year racing career. Nissan has the privilege of being the proud sponsor of two film screenings and their after-parties.
“Paul Newman not only won an Oscar® as an actor, but also amassed four national championships as a driver and eight championships as a team owner, with many of his most significant victories coming behind the wheel of Nissan and Datsun vehicles,” said Jeremy Tucker, Nissan North America vice president of Market Communications and Media. Tucker goes on to say that, “Paul never stopped racing, winning his last race at the age of 82, and we’re excited to help honor his rich legacy as a racer and humanitarian.”
Nissan vehicles are not only on display throughout WINNING, but they are also highlighted at the parties following the film screening. Guests have the opportunity to check out some of Nissan’s now-vintage models as well as a couple of the brand’s GT-R GT3 racers, which currently see quite a bit of action on the track. In addition, they’ll be able to get up close and personal with the all-new 2016 Maxima, Nissan’s “4-Door Sports Car” for the racer in all of us.
The first screening was held on April 16 in Los Angeles just before the Long Beach Grand Prix. The second is scheduled for May 22 in Indianapolis, which coincides with the Indy 500.
Proceeds from tickets sold for the documentary screenings are pledged to the Racing for Cancer and The Indy Family Foundation non-profit organizations.

Have you heard? There is a new soundtrack to Nissan’s driving experience. Coming as an available feature in the 2016 Nissan 370Z, 370Z NISMO, and the 2016 Nissan Maxima, will be a Bose speaker array that is capable of Active Noise Canceling (ANC) and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE). This means that the speakers will be able to port sound in from the engine compartment for a distinct aural acceleration experience while attenuating the low-frequency droning sounds for driving comfort.
Bose is an industry leader in audio technology and a pioneer of Active Noise Canceling, which uses microphones to record low frequency sound waves and speakers which then emit sound-waves in opposite phases to cancel the noise. This Bose ANC feature has been perfected in jet aviation and on NFL sidelines and now, in combination with the Active Sound Enhancement capabilities of the new 370Z and Maxima, provides an organic connection between the car and driver.

Maxima fans couldn’t get enough of the new 2016 model, which recently premiered at the New York International Auto Show. The new model features a host of new options, including a 300 horsepower engine, 4-door design, and an affordable price.
The 2016 Maxima design has been completely redone, featuring a wide range of engineering and styling upgrades. According to Nissan, the Maxima has a V-Motion front end, signature lights, unique C-pillars, and a “floating roof” appearance. Best of all, the interior design was made with luxury in mind.
“This all new model was designed and engineered here in America…and will build on the Maxima’s standing as the longest-running and most recognizable nameplate in Nissan’s lineup,” said Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan. He goes on to say that, “the new Maxima is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before”
Aside from style, the 2016 model has a 3.5-liter V6 which cranks out over 300 horsepower and gets 30 mpg highway. NissanConnect and Advanced Drive Assist also come standard, allowing drivers to stay safe and always connected. We are anxiously awaiting their arrival here at 171 Nissan![Top]
