As the end of 2017 rapidly approaches, so begins the season of giving. Every year around the holidays, people come together and give back to their communities, donate to their favorite charities, and help out their loved ones. There are plenty of ways to give back, and while we at 171 Nissan celebrate all forms of giving, we want to share some information about a food bank that lies close to home and that you can donate to.
The Food Bank of Central Louisiana truly represents the spirit of giving. Located right here in Alexandria, the Food Bank of Central Louisiana relies upon the support of private donations in order to serve the community and help families in need. As a result, the Food Bank is able to serve over 22,400 people every month. With a mere $1 donation, the Food Bank can provide five meals to families, and the donation of canned goods furthers their mission of serving the hungry of Central Louisiana. In 2016 alone, they distributed over 6.9 million pounds of food to those in our community who are in need of food assistance.
There are three main ways to take part in the season of giving and help out the Food Bank of Central Louisiana: monetary donations, donating food (canned goods and other nonperishable food products, as well as fresh produce), and donating your time by volunteering at the food bank. Sometimes, it really pays off to step away from the stress or mundane atmosphere of a normal routine and get a breath of fresh air in nature. Since 171 Nissan is so close to the surrounding area, we like to take regular hikes in one of these two favorite hiking places near Alexandria, LA. Once you’re there, you will be amazed at what a little time away can do for you.
Kisatchie National Forest
This national forest is located right next to Alexandria, LA. You can drive out to a variety of trailheads when you take a capable and maneuverable vehicle like the Nissan Rogue as your transportation. Bring camping gear and set up for the night, or use your Nissan Rogue to travel off-road until you find the perfect picnic location.
Sabine National Forest
West of Kisatchie, you’ll find another national forest. Sabine National Forest is actually just across the Texas border, and it’s a bit of a drive from Alexandria. However, the Nissan Rogue has plenty of entertainment technology to keep you occupied on the drive. Once you’re there, you can go backpacking or choose from a number of long trails for a day hike in this breathtaking forest.

After seeing a huge jump in their quarterly profit from October to December, Nissan actually raised their earnings forecast for the fiscal year, which looks to be a successful year for the Japanese auto company.
In fact, their quarterly profit increased by an astonishing 21 percent, which many are citing as a result of the cheap yen. This has seriously impacted sales overseas. U.S. sales are reportedly strong as well, particularly that of the Rogue and Altima.
Nissan now expects to earn about $3.5 billion in profit this fiscal year through March, whereas previously, they were only expecting to achieve around $3.4 billion. Those numbers are pretty close, but you have to remember – we’re talking about billions here.
Weak yen aside, Nissan’s spectacular sales are also due in part to their positive association with electric cars, like the Nissan Leaf. Though sales of the Leaf are still low compared to more conventional models, it remains one of the most popular electric cars in the world.
It’s no surprise that the Nissan earnings forecast have raised, and perhaps, it could even get pushed higher as their winning streak continues.[Top]
